Special Law Commission holds consultation on counter-terrorism legislation in Malawi.
Special Law Commission on Development of Legislation on Counter-Terrorism has begun holding consultations with key stakeholders to gather insights and solicit views on specific issues pertinent to development of counter-terrorism legislation in Malawi.
The Commission is meeting with representatives of human rights organizations, faith-based organizations, international organizations, financial institutions, and telecommunication institutions.
According to Malawi Law Society over the next two days, the Commission is also scheduled to meet with representatives of security agencies, business operators, transporters and Malawi Law Society to benefit from unique experiences of various stakeholders and participants in the matter.
The deliberations will inform development of comprehensive counter-terrorism legislation, ensuring an inclusive and well-informed approach that aligns with Constitution of Malawi, international human rights obligations, and operations of organizations contributing to counter-terrorism efforts.
The Law Commission is receiving technical and financial support from Government of Malawi and EU-UN Global Terrorism Threats Facility to carry out this critical work.
