Presidential taskforce rejects granting covid-19 risk allowance to teachers

Presidential taskforce on covid-19 has told Ministry of education that it does not think granting covid-19 risk allowance to teachers is appropriate at this stage

Minister of education Agness Nyalonje has told parliament in her ministerial statement on the opening of school during covid-19 pandemic

Nyalonje said the Ministry received the communication on the matter from the taskforce today and had already communicated to Teachers Union of Malawi TUM on the decision

The health Minister said she referred the issue to covid-19 taskforce because the matter falls outside the limit of the ministry hence requires input from the latter and other ministries

“Teachers and staff in the ministry are governed by terms and conditions of services promulgated by ministry of labour,” Nyalonje

When asked on the matter soon after the minister presented the ministerial statement TUM president Willie Malimba said had not received the communication
