Presidential Pardon Not Fueling Murders-Prison
Malawi Prisons Services (MPS) has dismissed claims that the increased crime rate including murders in the country is caused by recent presidential pardons of over 5000 inmates
Speaking to Radio Islam, MPS Public Relations Officer, Chimwemwe Shawa, said out of the pardoned prisoners only few have returned
He called on Malawians to stop labeling ex-prisoners as criminals saying it creates fears among them to integrate former convicts in their respective homes.
Shaba therefore said Malawians need to understand that there are a number of factors that attribute to an increased crime rate.
Recently Malawi has experienced a spate of murders which Civil Society Organisations, Security experts and Democratic Progressive Party condemned
