President Chakwera for natural resources protection regislation
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called for formulation of a legislation that will protect natural resources from depletion
Speaking at Kamuzu international airport upon arrival from SADC summit in Democratic Republic of Congo Chakwera said the legislation will ensure that Malawians are benefiting from the precious resources which the country has
During the handover ceremony of SADC chairman to president of Democratic Republic of Congo Felix Tsitsekedi, Chakwera told African countries to defend their resources from being stolen by western governments
He said there is no one outside Africa who is coming to build the continent the way its citizens want
“The resources in Africa are enough to finance its projects but the forces from western and eastern countries are in the continent to steal its resources,” Chakwera
Chakwera emphasized that if the world wants natural resources from Africa they must buy in a fair trade
“Depletion of African resources by western countries is affecting implementation of SADC strategic development plan activities,” Chakwera
The Malawi leader said there is need to develop a framework that will leverage resources from the private sector
