People’s Party pulls out of Tonse Alliance

People’s Party PP has become the latest partner in Tonse Alliance government to pull out of the political marriage as Malawi gears 2025 elections.

Peoples Party President Dr Joyce Banda announced the decision at a rally in Zomba over the weekend.

PP has followed the footsteps of AFORD, UTM and PETRA parties which dumped the tonse alliance

Reacting to the development, political scientist Lateem Matenje is of the view that the pulling out of some political parties from Tonse Alliance is a clear manifestation that there was no coalition in the first place.

Matenje says in 2025 elections political parties must form alliances with clear agenda governed by Malawi constitution and not emotions.
