Parliament passes motion blocking single MP party from commenting for 30 minutes.

Parliament has passed a motion that bars representatives of political parties which have only one MP to comment on budget and state of national address among others for 30 minutes.

The motion says representatives of such parties will be given only 10 minutes to speak as is the case with every Member of Parliament

According to leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda they have done this to save time.

“In the past all political parties with representatives in parliament were allowed to comment on Budget, SONA and others for 30 minutes but it was a waste of time for a party which has only 1 MP to speak for that long period of time,” says Chimwendo Banda

Alliance for Democracy AFORD is the victim as it has only one Member of Parliament Yeremiah Chihana who recently criticised the SONA which president Dr Lazarus Chakwera presented in parliament.

Meanwhile, national assembly has changed representatives of Malawi parliament at PAN Africa parliament.

Steve Mikaya and Victoria Kingstone have replaced Chrissy Kanyaso and Chimwemwe Chipungu

According to Chimwendo Banda Kanyaso has given up the position because she wants to concentrate on duties of a minister while Chipungu has been replaced following a decision made in DPP.
