Parliament Cancels Inquiry on Malawi-East Bridge Fertilizer Deal
Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has said will not go ahead with the inquiry on fertilizer deal between Malawi and East Bridge Company of Romania
Chairperson of the committee Mark Botomani says they have decided to cancel the inquiry because there is no evidence that the funds were abused
According to Botomani Malawi government did not surrender any money to East Bridge therefore the committee cannot continue with the probe
He says the documents from attorney general Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda and other departments have been scrutinized and the committee found that government did not pay any money to East Bridge.
The chair of PAC says Attorney General cannot cheat the committee and it has not been threatened to stop the inquiry
The public accounts committee of parliament was expected to meet agencies and ministries involved in the matter
In the deal Malawi wants to be exchanging K500 billion farm produce with fertilizer from East Bridge worth 250 million dollars
