NYCM to launch K100 Million Grant for Youths

National Youth Council of Malawi NYCM will launch a K100 Million grant on Monday, November 9 to empower Malawian youths towards transformative business ventures.

In a press statement the council says the grant will be distributed to 18 youth cooperatives to support their projects in agriculture, education, health, technology, and entrepreneurship.

National Youth Council of Malawi says the initiative aligns with pillar and priority 1 of the council and National Youth Policy, which focuses on increasing decent employment as well as entrepreneurship opportunities for self-reliance among youth by 2030.

The council also disclosed plans to increase the grant’s value to K1 billion which will be shared among youth-led cooperatives.

Through the press statement, Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, stated the significance of this initiative because the future of Malawi depends on energy, creativity, and leadership of its youth.

Youth-led organisations and groups from all regions of Malawi are encouraged to participate in the competitive selection process to become beneficiaries of the grant.

Blantyre District Council, Youth Officer, Peter Mizedya said many youths have ideas for self-development but they lack startup capital

Mizedya also expressed hope that NYCOM will collaborate with youth offices earlier to ensure that deserving youth groups, especially in rural areas, benefit from the grant.
