Navicha cheers female inmates at Maula
Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Mary Navicha, has visited and cheered female inmates at Maula prison in Lilongwe.
During the visit, the minister also donated some basic items like soap and sugar among others.
In an interview with Radio Islam after the tour, Navicha said she thought of visiting the female inmates because she knows that female inmates lack empowerment and words of encouragement in the prison.
She said her main focus of the visit was to interact with the female inmates and hear out from them the problems they are facing so that government needs to address.
In her remarks, one of the inmates, Olivia Mvelee, asked government to provide technical materials to the female inmates so that they can learn technical skills that will help them once they get out of the prison.
Mvelee commended the minister for visiting them saying the items given to them will ease some of the challenges they are going through.
