MWO apologises to Muslims over dancing at Ijtma

Muslim Women Organization MWO has apologized to Muslim community for the dancing scenes that happened at this year’s Ijtma.

Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre, MWO national coordinator Asiatu Lipenga, said it is unfortunate that the event which was supposed to be spiritual has sparked anger among the Muslim community.

A video clip which has gone viral shows Muslim women  dancing to a  nasheed being sung live on stage during the 2022 gathering held in Dedza

According to Lipenga “as organizers of the event it was not their intention to make women dance at the event but it was just out of joy that the ladies started shaking their bodies.”

She has since apologized to the leadership of the Muslim Association of Malawi in particular, sheikhs and the entire Muslim Ummah.

However, Lipenga, asked Muslims to use proper channels of raising their issues whenever there are disagreements and not take it to social media.
