Mutharika to direct supporters on right DPP candidate

Former Malawi president Peter Mutharika has told Democratic Progressive Party supporters that he will direct them accordingly on the best candidate to take over as next DPP leader.

Mutharika was speaking on Sunday at Chonde ground in Mulanje during Mulakho wa Alhomwe cultural ceremony.

Addressing the gathering on the political turmoil in the DPP party, Mutharika said those who want to take the leadership must stay calm and wait for convention in 2023.

The former Malawi leader also said he will disclose his intentions to continue being the leader of the party or not once consultation with his family and other stakeholders have been finished.

Mutharika however revealed that he will advise DPP supporters on qualities of good candidate to leader the party if he steps aside.
