MUB accuses Agriculture Minister of Discrimination in AIP

Malawi Union of the Blind MUB has accused minister of agriculture of discrimination after he said will scrap off people with disabilities and the elderly from the list of Affordable Inputs Program beneficiaries.

Malawi Union of the Blind MUB has accused minister of agriculture of discrimination after he said will scrap off people with disabilities and the elderly from the list of Affordable Inputs Program beneficiaries.

According to MUB programs officer Latim Matenje what honorable Sam Kawale said is against conventions on protection of rights of people with disabilities that government of Malawi ratified.

“It is disheartening that government is failing to walk the talk on inclusivity as the minister is removing people from the list not because of their inabilities but due to their disabilities,” says Matenje.

He suggests that the minister should focus on nonproductive farmers as a means of perfecting the program and not physical appearance.

Matenje has therefore requested the minister to reverse the decision and include people based on merit.
