Ministry Challenges Companies to Embrace Government’s Energy Diversifying Policies
Ministry of energy has challenged private companies to embrace governments policies aimed at diversifying energy industry
Minister responsible Ibrahim Matola made the appeal when he officially opened this year’s Malawi national energy conference in Salima
Matola said Malawi has been relying on hydroelectricity along Shire River a development which he said has greatly affected by effects of climate change and the booming population
He said it is of this background that government is investing in other alternatives to ensure that electricity is accessible to all Malawians
The minister said for the country to achieve this private companies need to join hands with government in investing in other sources like solar, wind, gas and geothermal just to mention a few
Matola further said government is deliberately creating conducive environment such as scrapping off other levies on importation of diversified nergy equipment and materials
On his part president of Renewable Energy Industries association of Malawi REIAMA Soustain Chigalu commended the government for supporting private companies and other stakeholders in energy sector
Chigalu was however quick to appeal to government to put an extra gar in ensuring that sustainable and secured sources of energy sector
The two days conference brought together all stakeholders in energy sector from private and government departments and others from Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kenya
