Minister of finance to present 2021/2022 national budget Friday
Minister of finance Felix Mlusu will present the 2021 to 2022 national budget Friday afternoon
Speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara announced this in the national assembly before adjourning the house on Thursday
However one Member of Parliament protested the shifting of the presentation of the budget from morning to afternoon saying it is against standing orders
Before the adjournment Parliament adopted a report of parliamentary committee on natural resources to end malpractices in the importation of fuel into the country
Chairperson of the committee Welani Chilenga presented the report in the national assembly on 25th May which recommended that ant corruption bureau should investigate the misconducts which include forcing government officials to include two companies in the importation deal
The Members of parliament have challenged the monopoly of fuel importation and unprofessional conduct at MERA
They said MERA should stop controlling NOCMA because they have different roles
The legislators said NOCMA and Petroleum Importers Limited should not be the only companies to import fuel into the country
The first to comment was MP for Machinga East Esther Jolobala who told parliament that “after the presentation of the report some parliamentarians were persuaded to reject it.”
Supporting the report Member of Parliament for Likoma Island urged government to give the chance of importing fuel into the country to all Malawians
He appealed to government to allow private companies to do the business
