MHRRC launches K237.6m Program
Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre MHRRC has launched 237.6 million kwacha Nkhanza Toto Program which will benefit districts of Machinga, Dowa, Mzimba, Nkhatabay and Ntchisi
Through the nine months program MHRRC with funding from UN women, Machinga will earn 14.7 million kwacha to facilitate mobile courts and provision of legal aid services to survivors of gender based violence GBV
Speaking during the launch in Machinga MHRRC Programs manager Charles Gawani said fear to provide evidence among witnesses and long distances GBV survivors walk is fueling the delay of justices in courts
Gawani said through the project MHRRC will be providing court session lessons to witnesses to ensure are well prepared for the trial
Meanwhile Machinga district gender technical working group Chairperson Isaac Mukoka said many cases remain unresolved in courts therefore the program will help to speed their prosecution
Mukoka said GBV victims and witnesses have been failing to appear in courts to seek justice due to lack of transportation and fear
