Medical Council of Malawi Imposes Penalties on Private Hospitals, Medical Practitioners
Medical Council of Malawi MCM has imposed various penalties on four private hospitals and eight medical practitioners for committing various disciplinary offences
The four private hospitals are Blantyre Adventist Hospital, Mwaiwathu Private Hospital, Lilongwe Adventist Hospital and Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Kapiri Community Hospital.
According to MCM registrar and chief executive officer Davie Zolowere the 8 medical practitioners are Dr Enerlin Maranan Istwing, Geoffrey Mwalabu, Dr Manda, Yamikani Mataka, Joseph Majawa, Mary Chigeda, Elias Tilika and Mrs Waluza
Some of the offences are refusing to provide anesthesia to a patient, non-adherence to referral protocol, failure to manage pregnant patients, negligence, failure to recruit appropriate staff, providing ARV’s without confirming HIV status, and practicing in a private hospital without licence
He said during this hearing, three were not guilty, one was referred to the Nurses and Midwives Council and another one was referred to Labor court.
This year alone Medical Council of Malawi has concluded 31 disciplinary cases.
