MCCCI rejects ESCOM’S 67.9 Percent electricity tariff, proposes 40 percent
Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry MCCCI has recommended an increment of electricity tariffs by 40 percent in four years
Speaking during the 2023 to 2027 electricity tariff application chief executive officer of MCCCI Chancellor Kaferapanjira rejected the 67.9 percent increment proposed by Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi ESCOM
Meanwhile Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority MERA is hopeful that all recommendations that have been made during the second leg of electricity tariff increment will guide policy holders to effect justifiable new electricity tariffs
MERA chief executive officer Henry Kachaje underscored the need to reduce the proposed electricity tariff hike to a reasonable amount
Kachaje assured stakeholders and the public that they will use and approve the outcomes of the meeting
In his remarks principal secretary in the ministry of energy engineer Alfonso Chikuni said they are encouraging ESCOM to come up with reforms that will bring about efficiency to make profits
