Malawi sets to open International Arbitration Centre
As one way of enhancing business, Malawi is set to open International Arbitration Centre.
The center is a private sector led facility for settlement of commercial, investment and other disputes by way of arbitration, mediation and like processes.
According to the concept note made available to Radio Islam, the centre is expected to officially open its doors on Friday March 21 alongside the inaugural Malawi International Dispute Day.
The letter says through the centre, business environment in Malawi is going to improve thereby enhancing access to justice through efficient non-adjudicatory measures.
It says the centre a legally sanctioned wholly private initiative that actively promotes collaboration and recognition by state parties and multilateral institutions at national, regional and international levels.
On the same day, the country will also inaugurate the Malawi International Dispute Day designed to be an annual event in the calendar of the centre.
Following the opening ceremony three panel discussions will be conducted in the afternoon followed by plenary sessions before the delivery of the rapporteur’s overview of the conference.
The Malawi International Arbitration Centre is private company limited by guarantee initially incorporated by the Malawi Law Society (MLS) and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) in September 2023.
