Malawi Holds First Ever Umodzi Day
As Malawi celebrates this year’s Umodzi day chiefs have called for careful scrutiny of annual cultural events because they can destroy unity.
Speaking during the celebrations in Lilongwe representative of the chiefs Inkosi Ya Makhosi Mbelwa said it seems the cultural events have been turned into competitions of tribes
Therefore he has asked all citizens to be observing their celebrations in a style of building Malawi not dividing it
Inkosi Mbelwa concurred with Centre for Multiparty Democracy CDM on its call for political parties to practice politics of transforming the country
In his speech President Lazarus Chakwera lamented the abandoning of Malawian values and cheapening of passport as it has been reduced to a mere document hence violating sovereignty of Malawi
Chakwera condemned the sale of land to foreign fraudsters at the expense of citizens and directed that every first Thursday of each November should be “Umodzi Day”
Speaking earlier Public Affairs Committee PAC says realization of unity Malawi depends on involvement of everyone in all matters of national interest
Chairperson of PAC Dr Patrick Thawale cited resolving of wrangle on wearing of Hijab in schools and Islamic billboard
