Maize Relief Beneficiaries Ask Government To Fulfill Promise

People of Balaka district have asked government to stick to its promise of distributing maize to families that are facing hunger.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, chairperson of Balaka council Thomson Bwanali said they were supposed to start receiving the maize today but to no avail.

Bwanali said they were earlier told that the distribution exercise had delayed because of lack of empty sacks at Mangochi Sailos where the maize is expected to come from.

“28,000 people were registered to benefit from the program in the district,”

In his remarks, one of council authorities who opted for anonymity confirmed that the delay is due to lack of sacks, but was quick to say that all processes have been completed and the exercise will be rolled out soon in the district.

Department of disaster management affairs is expected to distribute maize to people who are facing hunger in the country from September to March next year.
