Leather Industries Association of Malawi launched
Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism says government is ready to alleviate challenges which small scale enterprises are currently facing in the country.
This was said in Lilongwe during the launch of Leather Industry Association of Malawi (LIAMA) whose objective is to help small scale enterprises manufacture quality products which will be competitive at the market.
Speaking during the event Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Joseph Mwanamvekha said the Ministry is very delighted with the initiative as small scale enterprises contribute to development.
“The association is very significant as it will be used to access loans from banks,” says Mwanamveka.
In her remarks Board Chair of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI) Betty Chinyamunyamu said they had decided to have the association to address challenges they had been facing.
“The launch of Leather Industry Association of Malawi (LIAMA) was held under the theme “Transforming the Malawi Leather Value Chain into the Vibrant Economic Sub Sector.” said Chinyamunyamu.
