Govt Declares 7 July Eid-Ul-Fitr holiday
Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in consultation with Muslim Association of Malawi MAM has declared 7th July a public holiday.
Principal Secretary in the ministry, Stewart Ligomeka in a statement, says the holiday has been declared to give chance to Muslims to celebrate the end of Holy month of Ramadhan.
” The Ministry of Local Government is wishin Muslims in Malawi and the Diaspora a happy eid Mubarak, ” reads the statement.
Speaking to this radio, spokesperson for Muslim Association of Malawi MAM Sheikh Dinala Chabulika says the holiday has been declared on Thursday, because two public holidays cannot be observed on the same day.
Chabulika however was quick to say that eid prayers will be observed depending on the sighting of the new moon.
