Gift of the Givers champions K19m irrigation scheme rehabilitation project
Gift of the Givers has championed an irrigation scheme rehabilitation project worth 19 million kwacha in Nsanje district.
Speaking during Nsanje district agriculture field day at Chimwala Mbangu irrigation scheme in TA Malemia, Gift of the Givers country director Sharifa Mia said the organization partnered with government and other organizations to assist 823 farmers through building secondary canals.
Mia emphasized the need for different stakeholders to join hands in the project implementation saying “it contributes towards success of projects.”
In his remarks Chimwala Mbangu irrigation scheme chairperson Givemore Zambaza has thanked Gift of the Givers for helping them with secondary canals, fertilizers and seeds as well as agricultural trainings.
“The coming in of the organization has encouraged other farmers to come in and join the scheme,” Zambaza
Nsanje district principal agriculture officer Wyton Fole has since called on farmers to practice modern irrigation farming technologies to maximize their produce.
Fole said through modern ways of agriculture Malawi can realize agenda 2063 on food security.
The Field day was observed under the theme adopting diversified modern farming technologies key to sustainable agricultural productivity.
