Gender activist commends Chakwera for taking action against rape & defilement

Gender activist has commended President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for ordering the formation of a taskforce which will address matters concerning rape and defilement in the country.

In his weekly radio address in Mzuzu, Dr Chakwera ordered the ministry of homeland security to lead a taskforce which will among others comprise of relevant government institutions and concerned stakeholders.

Speaking to radio Islam, Executive director for NGO Gender Coordinating Network NGO GCN Barbra Banda said Chakwera’s order has given confidence to women’s rights activists that issues of ending rape are being taken seriously.

”this is the role that we want to see being taken more and more so that we are not only responding to crimes but we are also making sure that these crimes do not take place,”

Banda has meanwhile asked for the formation of a taskforce inclusive to ensure all concerned stakeholders.
