Former homeland minister jailed 5 years
High court in Lilongwe has jailed former minister of homeland security Uladi Mussa and former immigration officer David Kwanjana to 5 years for abuse of office and neglect of office.
Mussa and Kwanjana were found guilty in a case of offering passports to foreigners
Presenting the judgment judge Chifundo Kachale said the two have been disqualified from holding any public office for the next 7 years.
Meanwhile Mussa’s lawyer Paul Maulidi says his client will appeal against the sentence from next week.
Mussa and Kwanjana were convicted few weeks ago.
Uladi Mussa is vice president of Democratic Progressive Party DPP in Central region.
He is the second DPP senior official to be jailed after the party’s regional governor for the north Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira who was jailed to 4 years by Mzimba magistrate court over abuse of local development fund when he was Member of Parliament for Mzimba Hora constituency
The convictions have been imposed at a time leadership conflicts and divisions have escalated in the former ruling party
