Floods wash away Kyungu Bridge along M1 road in Karonga, killing two travelers
Floods have washed away Kyungu Bridge in Karonga district which connects Malawi’s main road from Songwe in the northern region, killing two travelers and leaving many stranded.
Police in Karonga has confirmed the death of the two whose vehicle fell into the River last night and their bodies have been recovered in the morning of Thursday
Karonga police stations spokesperson Enock Liverson says the victims are officials from Immigration Department and Malawi Revenue Authority
Northern region police assistant public relations officer Cecilia Mfune has told Radio Islam that “the area is impassable therefore warning the public because it is too dangerous.”
Roads Authority has engaged a Chinese company to rectify the bridge
Meanwhile, Vice president Dr Saulos Chilima has visited the collapsed bridge as he is touring various projects in the northern region
