Fisherman drowns in Lake Malawi

Fisherman has drowned in Lake Malawi, Mangochi district.

Deputy police spokesperson for Mangochi police sergeant Amina Tepani Daud said the dceased Yamikani Khembo came from M’bwana village TA Nankumba in the district.

Daud said the accident occurred near Malawi shipping company.

“Khembo went for fishing with his business partner Ulemu Frank on their canoe whilst fishing strong wind blew therefore their canoe capsized,” she explained.

Fortunately, Frank managed to swim back to the beach.

A search team found Khembo’s body a few metres from where he drowned.
