ESCOM asks MERA to approve 67.9 % tariff increase

Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi ESCOM has submitted an application to Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority MERA to approve a 69.7 percent tariff increase

In a public notice Chief Executive Officer for MERA Henry Kachaje says the application for the tariff increase is for the period 2023 to 2027

Kachaje says is a successor to the one that was implemented from 2028 to 2022

It is noted that the new application is a significant reduction from 99.9 percent that ESCOM and Power Market Limited jointly asked before the latter was dissolved

Therefore MERA asks stakeholders to submit suggestions on the ESCOM base tariff application by 29^th June 2023
