Energy Minister storms ESCOM
Minister of Energy has called on members of the general public to familiarize themselves with the services provided by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).
Minister responsible, Sheikh Ibrahim Matola, made the appeal when he made a surprise visit to ESCOM’s Blantyre service centre to appreciate the role the call centres are playing in serving the public.
Speaking to the media after the tour, Sheikh Matola said ESCOM is proving different products to the customers but customers are not aware of the services.
The minster however gave an example of a toll free line 2020 which he said people are still using their own airtime to call the customer centre.
It is on this background the minister has revealed that his ministry is going to establish an energy corner where the aligned departments will be provided a platform to explain to the masses what they are doing.
Some the challenges members of staff presented to the minister are mobility and security, but one of the board members of ESCOM who accompanied the minister, Gift Mwakhwawa, said it is putting all measures to reduce the challenges.
On security, Mwakhwawa further said it is the responsibly of every Malawians to see to it that the life of ESCOM officers and the customer are safe.
