Center for Human Rights Rehabilitation CHRR has expressed worry over the delays to give ward councilors their honoraria and other benefits since emerging victorious in the 16 September elections.
Speaking in an interview with radio Islam CHRR Executive Director Michael Kaiyatsa said the delay is showing that councilors are not considered important despite the fact that their roles are enshrined in the country’s constitution and local government act.
Kaiyatsa has therefore called on the government through the ministry of local government to address the issue with speed to ensure that they are able to access their benefits as indicated in the law.
Meanwhile minister of local government Ben Phiri says the delay is due to processes that must be followed thereby assured that the government is working on expediting the process.
