Chingale communities petition Zomba district council over sub district
Community members from Chingale have petitioned Zomba District Council to consider restoring the area as a Sub District
Speaking after delivering the petition to District Commissioner Sub Traditional Authority (Sub T/A) Nkapita, said they thought of petitioning the council because the area is always sidelined in development activities.
Sub T/A Nkapita said the area lacks basic social amenities which make it hard for civil servants who are posted there to deny postings.
“I am optimistic that our petition will be delivered to responsible authorities and the proposal will be considered positively,” Sub TA Nkapita said
Concurring with Sub TA Mkapita, youths’ representative during presentation of the petition, Dorothy M’biza, said young people in the area are not benefiting from government’s programs.
M’biza said most of job opportunities which could have been benefiting them are grabbed by people who are posted to the area from other areas.
“The area has no higher learning institution making it difficult for the underprivileged young people to access tertiary education,” added M’biza
Acknowledging receipt of the petition, Zomba District Commissioner, Smart Gwedemula said the council will look into their grievances.
He said they will make sure that no Organization dictates where to implement its projects and the council will be directing them based on needs of different communities.
On establishing the area as a Sub District, the DC said they have to firstly tackle their concerns by making sure that the area is provided with development activities just like any other area of the district.
Chingale Area has two constituencies namely Zomba Lisanjala and Zomba Chingale with an estimated population of 80,000 people.
