CDEDI write parliament on blood crisis in hospitals
Centre for democracy and economic development CDEDI has written parliamentary committee on health regarding blood crisis in hospitals
Executive director of CDEDI Sylvester Namiwa says the country is experiencing acute shortage of blood supply a development that has led to loss of many lives
Namiwa says the blood scarcity has prompted suspension of surgery in public health facilities
According to CDEDI Malawi has a requirement of 500 blood units per day but its investigations have revealed that Malawi Blood Transfusion Services is only able to make available 100 units per day
Therefore the centre requests the committee to call for a blood collection, distribution and accessibility audit in all public institutions
CDEDI also calls for independent investigation, public hearing and summon MBTS management to revamp blood collection exercise
Namiwa has given the committee 7 days to act on the matter
