CDEDI requests political parties’ registrar on five political parties’ funding
Centre for Democracy and Economic Development CDEDI has requested registrar of political parties to provide information on sources of funding of five major political parties
In a letter executive director of CDEDI Sylvester Namiwa seeks the disclosure of funding declared by Democratic Progressive DPP, Malawi Congress MCP, United Democratic Front UDF, UTM, People’s and Alliance for Democracy AFORD
Namiwa says CDEDI requests the information for the period between April 2019 and June 2020 as stipulated in the constitution
“The initiative is making the request on behalf of all Malawians of goodwill who have the right to know and get access to such information on how political parties source their finance,” Namiwa
He has given the office 7 days to provide the information failure which will commence legal proceedings against it
