Balaka Police Commends Stakeholders for Reducing Defilement Cases

Balaka Police Station has commended the Social Welfare office and Civil Society Organisations for their interventions which have aided the station to reduce defilement cases with 26%.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, the Station’s Public Relations Officer, Inspector Felix Misomali, said the station has in the past nine months registered 26 cases as compared to last year’s  35 cases registered within the year’s third quarter.

Misomali said Civil Society organizations such as YONECO, Tilitonse Youth Organisation among others have helped the police in fighting child sexual abuse with various community sensitization activities and at the same time supporting these minors to stay in school.

He also on the other hand, commended the mobile court system which he said giving stiffer punishments to the offenders in front of their communities has influenced many communities to stop the act in fear of the judgment, hence minimizing the cases.
