ADMARC sets New Maize Price of K600 per KG
Agriculture Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) has set new prices of maize to be sold at MK600 per kilogram against initial farm gate price of MK500 per kg.
This means 50kg of maize will be pegged at MK30, 000 against MK25, 000.
The corporation has also set a buying limit of 25 kilograms of maize per individual in its depots that are expected to be opened tomorrow.
ADMARC Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Makata justified the move to restrict vendors from monopolizing the market.
Commenting on this development, one of the agriculture analysts, Fryton Njolomole says government has struck a balance in setting the prices in consideration of the rising cost of farm inputs and affordability.
However, Njolomole urged ADMARC to put in place measures to ensure that the commodity is accessible to all and that vendors are not taking advantage of the situation.
