Government to turn Malape Pillars into Tourism Site
Minister of tourism, wildlife and culture Michael Usi has said the Ministry will develop Malape pillars which are located in Machinga district into a tourism site
The Minister said this during a familiarization tour at Malape pillars Usi said in response to government efforts to develop tourism sector OG Issa has pledged to support development of the heritage site.
He explained that his ministry in collaboration with the partners will improve the road from Bakili Muluzi Highway to the site, identify and train local tour guides as well as embark on awareness activities among others
“My Ministry will write proposals to other businessmen, organisations and well wishers to support in the initiative,” Usi
In his remarks paramount chief Kawinga welcomed the efforts saying such a move will make Machinga a centre of tourism
Kawinga highlighted that Machinga has many sites that can be developed into tourism centres but for the past years they were not considered
Therefore he said it is now the right time to utilize available opportunities to develop tourism centres.
However paramount chief Kawinga called on the Ministry to bring back the meteorite which fell in Machinga in 1981 to be part of tourism icons in the district
Kawina Ngopola chairperson of Malape pillars welcomed the support which the ministry has promised to give them saying will encourage the community to protect environment from degradation.
