HRDC calls government to fire officers selling land illegally
Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC has asked government to fire officers who have been stealing land from Malawians and selling illegally
Speaking during a press briefing HRDC chairperson Gift Trapence said it unfortunate that land is being sold illegally to foreigners who already have it
Trapence said government should stop demolishing buildings of only poor Malawians who built them on wrong places
He added that government should address the issue of illegally recruiting people in government institutions.
“Malawians should have equal opportunities of employment those who have right qualifications should be employed. Nepotism or political interference must be rejected,” Trapence said
In his remarks HRDC member Mcdonald Sembereka said buildings of rich people which were constructed in reserved places must also be destroyed
“We will make sure that people who have been selling land illegally in the ministry of lands are taken into account,” said Sembereka
He said if the officers who have been illegally selling land are not arrested or fired HRDC will demonstrate to force their dismissal
Sembereka also said appointment of NGO Booard is non compliance with the law therefore the commission does not accept the members and directors.
