Unearth talent of people with disabilities – FOAS
Focus On Ability Society (FOAS) calls for companies to support its Annual short Films events aimed at unearthing talents of people with disability in Malawi.
The remarks were made at Grace Bandawe Conference Centre in Blantyre during the prize presentation to the winner of 2018 short film competition.
A Malawian short film titled ‘The Spectacle Hand’ produced by Chisomo Evasoni won the prize of 1000 dollars.
Professional Judges from Nova Employment in Austria selected the winner based on online viewers’ votes from across the world.
Chisomo Levasoni won the 2018 Focus On Ability short film award beating eleven Malawians contested in the competition.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Chisomo expressed happiness saying the prize will motivate him in entering more competitions.
He however advised people with disability in Malawi not to look down upon themselves but showcase their talents.
In his remarks, Executive director for Focus on Ability Society MacDonald Nyirenda encouraged companies and individuals in Malawi to support the FOAS event as it is one of the initiatives that promote talents of people with disability in the country.
He also called upon parents and guardians who have children with disability to allow them showcase talents in various places.
FOAS Creative Director Ryan Godwin from Austria assured Malawians to come up with more initiatives that will unearth talents of people with disability in Malawi.
He urged winners to also consider people with disabilities featured in the films as one way of showing appreciation.
Internationally Malawi had the highest entries of short films this year.
