MACRA to procure 1.5 million Dollars Machine to monitor Social Media

Concerned Citizens of Malawi has condemned Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority’s (MACRA) decision to procure a 1.5 million dollars machine to monitor social media.

According to a press statement, government’s choice to prioritize surveillance over addressing life-and-death matters is both shocking and unacceptable.

The statement says Malawians are currently battling severe shortages of fuel, forex, skyrocketing costs of essential needs, AIP fertilizers for poor farmers and essential medicines.

The grouping it is not the time for government to invest in non-urgent programs therefore warning that if it persists in its pursuit they will mobilize people to stop the Ghanaian company tasked with installing this machine.
