AGCOM 2 Project launched in Malawi
Agriculture Commercialization AGCOM 2 project through which 22 farmer cooperatives from various districts have received funding for agricultural activities has been launched
Speaking during the launch in Ntchisi district President Chakwera said the 295 million dollars project will ensure that Malawi is food secure and free from hunger
Speaking at the launch principal secretary for irrigation in Ministry of Agriculture Geoffrey Mamba says the project is supporting farmers to take agriculture as business, venture in irrigation farming and equip paratatals with necessary knowledge to ensure quality certified exports from Malawi
He says the project is being implemented in countries that are facing drought, conflicts and climate change among other challenges
In his speech World Bank Country Manager for Malawi Hugh Riddell says is pleased that women and youth are actively participating in AGCOM
He said the project will directly benefit 772,000 people, create 6 irrigation schemes in 2500 hectares of land as well as generate and save forex
