Attorney General Fails to Appear in Corruption Case

Attorney general has failed to appear before High Court in a corruption case involving vice president Saulos Chilima

On behalf of Malawi Defence Force, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda was expected to explain to Justice Redson Kapindu why they cannot release some documents to lawyers of Chilima.

In an interview after the session which took place in chamber, defense lawyer Khumbo Soko said Attorney General asked for an adjournment as he is currently attending to other matters.

Chilima is being accused of demanding and receiving 280,000 Dollars and other items from businessperson Zunneth Sattar to influence public contracts has failed to take place this morning as the Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda is engaged with other business.

Kapindu asked for presence of MDF after Anti-Corruption Bureau submitted in court that MDF was not forthcoming to share some documents which the defense are demanding.

The court is therefore expected to schedule another day for the hearing.
