Cholera outbreak in Nkhatabay
Cholera outbreak has been confirmed in Tukombo area, Nkhatabay district
Ministry of health says the district has recorded 213 cases. Out of these 26 are in admission, 179 recovered but 8 died
Secretary for health Dr Charles Mwansambo says the cases are from Mgaga village around Tukombo area
Dr Mwansambo adds that on 7th August 2022 Nkhatabay district received an alert of cases presenting with fever, abdominal cramps, watery diarrhea and vomiting
Investigation by the district rapid response team revealed that poor sanitation with about 5 percent of the households having toilets and poor water supply are the main drivers of the outbreak
Laboratory investigations from the samples collected have confirmed that it is an outbreak of cholera
Meanwhile, the ministry has put in place various interventions to ensure that the outbreak is controlled such as community sensitization and deployment of extra staff
