Mutharika challenges Chakwera over reputation destruction

Former president Peter Mutharika has challenged president Chakwera to focus on acting on corruption scandals, economic crisis and provide leadership to Malawians suffering from rising cost of living instead of wasting time in destroying his name and reputation

Mutharika who is also president of Democratic Progressive Party said this after Director of Public Prosecution directed police to investigate him and Dr Hetherwick Ntaba on their alleged involvement in the killings of people with albinism

He has challenged Chakwera to release the report that was presented to him by the commission of inquiry which contains the truth of the matter

Mutharika is shocked that the manner in which government wants to pursue the matter is the same pre-2020 propaganda that was intended to discredit his name using the killings of people with albinism

According to the former president he responded to those allegations by setting up presidential task force which was headed by Ntaba and appointed commission of inquiry to carry independent investigations

“I find it unfortunate that Ntaba was targeted for simply accepting to head the taskforce which worked tirelessly to come up with measures of protecting people with albinism and addressing their needs,” Mutharika

He has revealed that Chakwera was presented with the full report from the commission of inquiry but has not released it

Mutharika bemoaned the characteristics of the current presidency of hiding reports which Malawians should know hence urging him to release it.

The former president has threatened to make the report available to the public if Chakwera does not release it.

Mutharika said some political forces paid prisoners to start making ridiculous allegations that he was involved in the selling of bones of people with albinism

Therefore he has rejected the allegations and challenge government to release the report and proceed with its investigations

Mutharika and Ntaba were mentioned by people who were sentenced to life imprisonment and 60 year jail term because of murdering person with albinism Macdonald Masambuka in Machinga in 2018
