South Africa declares Malawi diplomats persona non grata
South Africa government has declared Malawian diplomats persona non grata and ordered them to leave the country within three days
Ministry of foreign affairs has confirmed the matter saying the diplomats work at Malawi High commission in Pretoria and consulate in Johannesburg
In a press release the Ministry says government of South Africa informed the diplomats that they had abused their diplomatic privileges
Meanwhile, Malawi government has conveyed its regret to South Africa on the conduct of the concerned diplomats and will take appropriate actions upon their return
“Malawi government has put in place appropriate measures to ensure continuity of operations of the mission in Pretoria,” reads foreign affairs ministry statement
Commenting on the matter political analyst Sherif Kaisi has called on authorities to ensure that people with good moral standing are appointed as diplomats.
Speaking to radio Islam, Kaisi said the incident has dented image of Malawi internationally.
