PAC orders Presidential taskforce to recover abused covid-19 funds
Public Accounts Committee of Parliament PAC has given Presidential taskforce on covid-19 seven days to recover money that was given as allowances to people mentioned in the Audit report.
PAC chairperson Shadreck Namalomba cited the committee’s failure to act upon Leader of Opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who allegedly received K3.6 million Covid-19 allowances though he gets K1.2 million as daily subsistence allowance and K2.4 million as fuel allowance.
However, Namalomba said it was not only Nankhumwa who benefited such allowances hence the committee must ensure that every penny has been returned.
Speaking after the meeting Covid-19 Taskforce co-Chairperson Dr Wilfred Chalamira Nkhoma said “we will do our best to meet the deadline.”
Chalamira told PAC that just like any other participant, Nankhumwa was given all allowances including fuel and accommodation
