MEC meets political party presidents on constituencies, wards demarcation
Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has embarked on meetings with political party presidents on review of boundaries of constituencies and wards
Chief elections Officer Sam Alfandika says the Commission is mandated by the Constitution to, among other things, review constituency and ward boundaries every five years.
According to Alfandika the last comprehensive review was conducted in 1998 and the Commission now wishes to embark on a comprehensive review beginning April, 2021
In this regard MEC will be holding consultation meetings with political party presidents, secretaries general, Directors of Elections and other executive members to present its work plan and possible scenario using National Statistical Office projections on eligible voter population as required by the law.
From Tuesday 6th to Wednesday 14th April the commission meets MCP, UTM, DPP, PP, UDF and AFORD presidents in Lilongwe
Thereafter the electoral body will meet other 13 political parties also in the capital city

The Commission has also plans to engage with various stakeholders like Parliament, Civil Society Organizations, academia, Development Partners, Government Departments and Agencies, Traditional Leaders, the media and the general public.
