Malawi formally switches off from analogue to digital
Malawi has formally switched off from analogue to digital system of communication, a program which was initiated in 2006
Speaking during the ceremony in Liwonde, Machinga Minister of information Gospel Kazako said the switch off will help Malawi to expand its broadcasting sector
Kazako said “there is need to utilize well the spectrum to expand this industry as it is very important to the development of the country.”
On his part president of Association of content providers in Malawi Charles Thangalimodzi said the switching off from analogue to digital will improve quality and have multiple television stations
However he asked government to remove tax on television equipment for easy access of digital equipment
According to MACRA technical advisor on digital migration Benson Tembo Malawi has surpassed other countries in Africa in the transition from analogue to digital
