Leader of opposition in parliament demands forensic audit on K6.2 billion expenditure
Leader of opposition in parliament has demanded president Chakwera to order a comprehensive forensic audit of DoDMA and all clusters of government on how they utilized 6.2 billion kwacha covid-19 funds.
Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also member of presidential taskforce on covid-19 has told the press briefing after going through some of the reports which the clusters submitted
Nankhumwa said a report of the findings of such forensic audit be submitted to Public Accounts Committee of parliament within 14 days for scrutiny and action
“This would be the only and best way to establish whether or not the public funds are being used for their intended purpose and deter future abuse of covid-19 as well as other government finances,” Nankhumwa
Nankhumwa proposes that all culprits must be arrested and prosecuted if the forensic audit finds that there was abuse and misappropriation of the funds
He has emphasized that if Chakwera does not act on his suggestion will resign as a member of the presidential taskforce on covid-19 in order to save his integrity as leader of opposition in parliament
He denied mentioning the cluster which misused more funds than others saying doing so can jeopardize the investigations
Nankhumwa said the matter surrounding the accountability of 6.2 billion kwacha is a serious matter which deserves seriousness in the way it is approached and managed
