Government allocates 1 billion kwacha for face masks procurement
Ministry of health has allocated 1 billion kwacha for procurement of face masks to be distributed to communities.
In a statement signed by local government ministry principal secretary Sphiwe Mauwa the money will be transferred to councils in line with decentralization policy.
Mauwa said this will ensure effective and efficient utilization of the resources in consideration with the urgent need for face masks in communities.
“The funds have been allocated based on the population and existing development partners in the district,” Mauwa
Mauwa has finally advised all councils to follow all procurement processes and guidelines.
According to the statement Lilongwe city and district with over 2 million people have been given lion’s share with over 101 million kwacha followed by Mangochi with 69 million kwacha.
Likoma Island which has 14, 527 residents has been awarded the least with 803 thousand kwacha.
