Court jails grandfather for defiling mentally retarded grand daughter

Ntcheu magistrate court has sentenced a grandfather to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a mentally retarded grand daughter

The court heard that Elias Chilemba aged 43 committed the offence on October 26 in the area Traditional Authority Ganya On the said date the grandmother left home leaving behind the girl and her grand father

When the grandmother returned she noticed that the girl had difficulties in walking and when she quizzed her she revealed that was defiled by the grandfather

She also revealed that the grandfather twice defiled her before this incident In court the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement but the state paraded four witnesses

Passing sentence senior resident magistrate Yohane Munthali slapped the accused with a 21 year jail sentence to  serve as a strong lesson to irresponsible guardians like the convict
